The Client

Owned and operated by the Bloomsbury Leisure Group, The Resting Hare on the lovely Woburn Walk in Bloomsbury bustles from lunch through to the evening with local office workers and tourists. Its name derives from the abundance of local hares living in the area in the mid 19th and 20th centuries, documented by Thomas Cubitt and renowned poet WB Yeats.

The pub occupies a separate ground floor side area, conjoined to the large County Hotel in Tavistock Square and is adjacent to the hotel’s instore Fleet Bakery. The Resting Hare comprises a front lounge seated area for drinking and dining and a rear stand-up bar area with an eye-catching copper topped oak finished horseshoe shaped bar with old fashioned hand-pumps and beer-taps.

Described as a hoppy-haven for craft ale fans, The Resting Hare has ten rotating keg beer taps that have been serving beer from more than 300 local craft and international breweries since 2015. Four cask beers as well as an impressive wine list from McKinley Vintners all serve to complement the traditional pub food menu.

Project Brief

To provide a high-quality background music system suitable for a traditional style public house.

System Solution

We opted for the compact Yamaha VSX5 loudspeakers which offer excellent sound quality at a very competitive price point. We installed four units connected to two zones of a Cloud 46/120 zoning amplifier fed from an Apple iPad. A further pair of VSX5s connected to another zoned output from the Cloud device and a separate music source serve the adjoining Fleet Bakery. The Cloud zoning amplifier offers the ability for music playback into both the pub and the bakery from either the same or separate sources as required.

End game

“I’m proud to say we have been partners of the Bloomsbury Leisure Group for more than a decade across various venues, including their flagship Bloomsbury Bowling & Kingpin Suite, the Pelt Trader, Holborn Whippet, the Waterloo Tap, plus the most recent additions of the Raven, Tower Bridge and the Resting Hare. These are proper old London pubs offering real ale at its best, and now great sound as well,” says David Graham, Founder, Sound Division.
