Citizens UK “100 Days of Peace”

3kW speaker system for flash mob at Euston station

The Event

Citizens UK is the largest group, nationwide, for bringing together people and local organisations to drive effective change in everyday issues that impact our daily lives.

The Citizens UK CitySafe campaign was set up to encourage local businesses to offer their premises as CitySafe Havens. The aim is to help young people and adults to build stronger relationships with their local community and neighbourhood organisations.

To launch the campaign, a “100 Days of Peace” was organised in which a ‘flash mob’ of pupils from Maria Fidelis School, and their friends would perform a dance routine at Euston Station. The routine draws on the ancient Olympic custom where 50 days before, and 50 days after the games, “peace in the community” allowed athletes to travel in safety.

Production Services

Brief for attention-drawing volume

Sound Division was asked to supply a sound system to provide enough volume for drawing attention to the performance.

To fulfil the brief Sound Division supplied a 3kW Electro Voice ELX self-powered two way system, which was floor stacked on the main station concourse, directly underneath the departures and arrivals board. A small stage platform was also set up for speeches.

Precisely-timed music playback

A Soundcraft mixing desk and Denon pro CD player controlled the music playback time of a chosen Beyoncé track for each four minute gap between station Tannoy announcements.

The Result

The event, which attracted mainstream media attention on the day, was successful in raising awareness of the campaign and Sound Division were pleased to have been involved with Citizen UK’s worthwhile initiative.
