Rum Kitchen, Soho
The Client
With restaurants in Soho, Brixton and Shoreditch, The Rum Kitchen invites customers on a journey inspired by rum cocktails and jerk BBQ, in a fun and friendly carnival atmosphere.
Mouth-watering dishes on offer include jerk chicken, marinated for more than 48 hours, curry mutton, slow cooked for over six hours, jacked up jerk bowl with starfruit, and KFC – Krispy Fried Cauliflower!
Diners at Kingly Court, Carnaby Street are met with a bright blue exterior and booming sound system upon entering this three-storey food and music extravaganza. Visitors are encouraged to experience the tastes and flavours of the Caribbean, ‘The RK Way’.
Project Brief
The Rum Kitchen required an extension of their current sound system, following a surge in popularity leading to an expansion into an adjoining rear building premises at Kingly Court. We were introduced to this project by their IT supplier.
The upgrade and expansion of their system required us to install additional control equipment to allow us to zone the audio system. We also provided additional loudspeakers to ensure sufficient coverage of the existing restaurant space, the new dining areas and washrooms.
System Solution
We augmented the existing audio setup in the restaurant with four additional Bowers & Wilkins 685 loudspeakers. In the newly created dining space, we installed a further four B&W loudspeakers.
The new dining room speakers are driven by a Yamaha PX3 amplifier with audio feeds provided by the new Cloud CX163 three-zone venue mixer. We also routed audio feeds for the existing sound system via the Cloud zone mixer, providing complete zonal control of the system throughout the entire restaurant.
We installed remote volume and source selection control panels – one in each zone – to allow independent music sources to be played out in each of the dining areas, as well as in the washrooms.
The Result
“This audio install really does tick all of the boxes: The sound quality is extremely clear and can be punchy when required at peak times like Friday and Saturday evenings, and there is now zonal control throughout the whole restaurant. The client is very happy, and therefore so are we!” comments David Graham, Director of Sound Division.
