Slick single-day AV installation upgrade for Queen's Park restaurant and bar

A slick single-day AV installation upgrade bringing full terrace coverage and simple remote zone control to a relaxed all-day restaurant and bar in Queen’s Park for the summer season.

The Client

Carmel is a relaxed, all-day restaurant and bar in the heart of Queen’s Park, London, drawing on the flavours of the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, North Africa and the former Ottoman Empire. The kitchen gives equal weighting to vegetables, meat and seafood, cooking largely over live fire and through wood roasting, with dishes designed to be shared across the table alongside an extensive, low-intervention wine list and a clean-cut cocktail menu.

Carmel is part of the Berber & Q group, whose journey began in 2015 with Berber & Q Grill House in Haggerston, followed by Shawarma Bar on Exmouth Market. Carmel opened in November 2021, bringing the group’s bold, fire-driven cooking west to Queen’s Park.

Project Brief

With the existing Martin Audio system already in place, Sound Division was brought in to upgrade the sound processing and control hardware and extend coverage out to the front terrace, all within a quick one day turnaround and without disrupting service. With summer in full swing, the extended terrace coverage means diners outside now enjoy the same background music as those inside, adding to the atmosphere especially on sunny and warm days.

System Solution

Martin Audio Adorn A55 compact loudspeakers, finished in black to sit discreetly within the terrace’s exterior fit-out, were installed in keeping with the internal speakers to extend even, natural coverage outdoors. Amplification was upgraded to a new Wharfedale DPi series four-channel amplifier, providing the additional channels needed to power the extended system reliably across both indoor and outdoor zones.

Source selection and volume across the venue is now managed via a new BSS Centrio EC8BV wall-mounted remote control panel, giving staff simple, on-the-fly control without needing to access the equipment rack.

The Result

The upgrade was completed in a single day with zero disruption to trade. The terrace now enjoys the same clarity and warmth as the main dining room, with staff given straightforward remote control over the whole system.
