Twin x Browns East

Twin Magazine launch party at Browns East, Shoreditch

The Event

Bringing together some of London’s finest creatives, the Twin x Browns East party on Halloween, celebrating the launch of the latest edition of Twin’s bi-annual magazine, brought together live performances from Skinny Girl Diet, Stefflon Don and others in a wild, 80’s-themed haven.

Twin is a hardback biannual magazine showcasing disobedient, rebellious and visionary creative voices through art and cultural features alongside specially commissioned fashion photography.

Browns East venue in Shoreditch was transformed, for one night only, into a ‘Stranger Things’ theme, with a vintage Toyota MR2 positioned as a centrepiece in an eerie, surreal atmosphere, fitting for Halloween. Specially created cocktails served in IV drip bags and tattoos on the house made for a night to remember.

Production Services

The production for this extraordinary 80s-themed event was headed up by Jodie Mosaid with Alice Kirkpatrick in charge of set design. Sound Division was delighted to be invited to manage the technical production requirements.

For the main stage sound system, multiple d&b Y-Series point source speakers coupled with four high-performance subwoofers provided the sound for the DJs and live band. Shure Q-LXD radio microphones and a full Shure stage microphone system for the band were engineered via a Soundcraft 32-channel mixing desk with amplification and processing handled by a live rack system. Four d&b M4 floor monitors handled stage foldback for the band and a Sennheiser EW300 IEM In-Ear monitoring system was provided for the lead singer.

A Pioneer CDJ2000/DJM9000 DJ NXS system mounted on a LiteDeck DJ booth with black surround were provided for the visiting DJs, including notably Loren Platt, who also benefitted from an EV SXA360 500W powered DJ monitor and a Shure Q-LXD radio microphone system.

Additional d&b speakers were strategically positioned to provide high-quality sound throughout the bar and lounge areas.

To ensure sufficient power for the additional lighting and sound systems, we also brought in a large-scale generator and comprehensive mains power distribution system.

In terms of seating and staging, we provided a tiered seating system for the rear dance floor, a scaffolding system for the bar and rear stage areas and a goal post scaffolding system for the main stage.

The lighting system for this event was particularly comprehensive, and included a large number of Chauvet Pixel LED lighting battens to produce a ‘halo-effect’ above and below the feature vintage Toyota MR2, brought in specially for the event. Low smoke and special wiring for the car headlights allowing them to remain switched on for the duration of the event, added spooky ambience.

We used par can lighting for street lighting effects, whilst Laser Science 8mW lasers, Selecon Source 4 profile lanterns and Chauvet Rogue moving head lighting effects plus an underlying light haze provided by an Arena Haze machine added to the room’s feature lighting. Two Kino Flow TV lights completed the effect.

Eight Chauvet LED lighting battens and twenty Encapsulite cylindrical LED stick lights were installed in the Tattoo Studio Cocktail Bar to create a suitably atmospheric environment. This was an event designed to engage all the senses – even smell – with three Antari Z350 haze machines using specially infused haze fluid to diffuse an alluring aroma throughout the entire venue.

This event required a significant amount of pre-production planning, a number of site meetings and a full technical crew for the build and de-rig. Sound and lighting engineers were on hand throughout the duration of the event to ensure that everything went off without a hitch.

The Result

“This was a large-scale production that required us to design and deliver an extensive range of sound, lighting, staging and set building services, a number of which were bespoke for this event and venue. The extensive equipment list required an enormous amount of pre-production and planning from our team to deliver what was a spectacular event for the clients. I am proud to say we pulled it off thanks to the enormous energy and commitment from the team both in advance and on the night, providing full engineering services for the sound and lighting systems for the duration of the event,” concludes David Graham, Managing Director, Sound Division.
