TIME 100 at Aqua Shard
The Event
A number of the world’s most influential people gathered at Aqua Restaurant at the iconic Shard in London to discuss how digital technology has shaped the world we live in today.
TIME 100 invited leading figures from the fields of architecture, arts, philanthropy and finance to share their stories of how social media has influenced them and continues to influence them today. Celebrity speakers included Zaha Hadid, widely regarded as the world’s greatest female architect of her time and responsible for some of the world’s most iconic designs including the London Olympic Aquatic Centre and the Serpentine Seckler Gallery; billionaire philanthropist, Victor Pinchuk; Ethiopian supermodel, Liya Kebede and international Michelin-starred chef, René Redzepi.
Production Services
Sound Division was called in to provide staging, sound, LED lighting, radio communications and engineering services for this prestigious event at one of London’s premier venues.
The sound system utilised a number of d&b Y-Series loudspeakers, chosen for their compact, unobtrusive design whilst providing extended low-end bass frequencies and full directivity control. Audio for the event was engineered using a Yamaha LS-32 digital mixing desk running a number of Shure Q-LXD radio microphones.
Chauvet Well Fit 2.0 LED uplighters were placed throughout the restaurant for atmospheric lighting and a compact stage lighting rig illuminated presenters during speeches and presentations.
Sound Division also provided a film crew to record the event, which was subsequently edited and delivered to the client within 24 hours, for upload to their website and social media channels.
The Result
Sean Salinas, Project Manager, Sound Division: “Working in the Shard is a challenging exercise, as time needs to be allowed for the stringent security checks and access is via two separate lifts. Furthermore, setup for all evening events has to be completed in two-hour time window after the lunch service finishes, meaning that all operations have to be meticulously planned and organised.”
“For this particular event, the addition of the film crew meant that even more equipment had to be checked, transported and set up in the same narrow time window. Nevertheless, thanks to our experience of working in the Shard, everything was completed on time and the event went off without a hitch.”
