Loulou's at 5 Hertford Street
The Client
Exuding an atmosphere of opulence and luxury, Loulou’s is an exquisite private members’ club located at 5 Hertford Street, Mayfair, on the corner of Shepherd Market. Owned by Robin Birley, the son of Annabel’s proprietor, Mark Birley, Loulou’s unapologetically boasts of being the most exclusive private member’s club in London.
The club’s interior design was brought to life by notorious fashion designer Rifat Ozbek, with the exclusive LouLou experience offering private dining booths, discrete alcoves and three separate dining rooms, in addition to its own dance floor, lounge and bar areas.
Project Brief
We were invited by the client to upgrade their existing audio system in the club space, bar and lounge areas.
System Solution
Following a series of comprehensive A/B loudspeaker tests involving several loudspeaker manufacturers, we delivered a state-of-the-art d&b audiotechnik solution throughout the venue. An audience of over 30 management and staff attended a series of blind shoot-outs. The d&b solution was the clear winner, gaining nearly 40% more votes than its nearest competitor.
In the Club Lounge, the setup comprised two 10S-D point source loudspeakers, favoured for their wide dispersion, and four compact 8S loudspeakers. These were supplemented with a single d&b Bi6 subwoofer and powered by two d&b 30D amplifiers.

In the African Bar, we installed four 5S loudspeakers, augmented by two 12S subwoofers which are driven by a single 10D amplifier.
Finally, in the Madagascar Lounge we provided a further four 5S loudspeakers, this time supported by two 12S subs heading up the low end. These were all connected to a single 10D amplifier.
End game
“Loulou’s is a prestigious and highly regarded venue in London, and we’re privileged to play our part in the provision and maintenance of their new high-end audio system. This showcases our potential to deliver across the spectrum, to extremely luxury clients as well. Due to the nature of the venue, our system had to be unobtrusive, and conform to the existing design. We positioned the loudspeakers in cabinet recesses and wall panelling niches to keep them out of sight or as discreet as possible.” — David Graham, Director, Sound Division
