The Cockatoo at Bistrotheque

Sound, lighting and AV for theatre & private event space rebrand

The Client

Through an unmarked door, and upstairs on the first floor of a shabby chic 1950s-style industrial warehouse on Waddesdon Street, Bethnal Green is Bistrotheque.

Founded in 2004 by restaurateurs David Waddington and Pablo Flack, the French-inspired restaurant and cocktail bar, is set in the always cool, austere elegance of whitewashed brick and tile.

Here the fashionistas and boho creatives of London town do brunch, lunch or dinner amongst the sheer minimalist joy of crisp white tablecloths and sleek black wooden chairs.

Multi-use event space

The ground floor area over the years has been a multi-use space for a wide range of private events from weddings and private parties to more commercial “street cred” events such as fashion and brand launches, and receptions.

The space has also been well-known on the gay London circuit for staging drag cabaret nights by up-and-coming performers.

Private events for live performers and DJs

In an exciting new venture, London-based studio, Nice Projects, transformed the downstairs theatre space into a standalone restaurant and performance area, and rebranded under the evocatively named Cockatoo. The theatre would instantly double up as a private events space for weddings, receptions, private dinners and dance parties with live performers and DJs.

Since its inception, Bistrotheque continues to be a long-standing client of Sound Division, who have masterminded a variety of audio/sound, lighting fitouts with upgrades over the years as well as looking after their rental requirements.
