The Client

Sound Division has had a special relationship with MMK in Mill Hill, north London, for a number of years, due in no small part to the fact that Sound Division MD David Graham’s daughter is a pupil at the school.

As a result of this close connection, Sound Division has been providing technical production support including professional sound and lighting to Year 6’s end-of-year productions for several years.

Project Brief

After the first couple of years, it became clear that the school’s existing main hall sound reinforcement system was inadequate and in need of updating, so Sound Division agreed to upgrade the school to a more modern system. This would be more flexible in meeting the various needs of the school – from presentations for parents to full musical productions.

System Solution

Sound Division specified and installed a new FOH system consisting of a pair of high quality Turbosound TQ-310 loudspeakers running through a Phonic Powerpod 820 powered mixer, enabling a high level of control while remaining simple to use. The company also supplied a new NEC NP510 digital projector and an 8ft electric drop-down screen. The installation was completed while working around the hectic schedule of a modern primary school to avoid disruption to the school’s day-to-day operations.

Since installation, the new system has been consistently used for everything from school assemblies to film showings, as well as the annual Year 6 shows, which have included Oliver, Mary Poppins, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Wizard of Oz. Audiences often comment on the outstanding production quality of the final show.

2012 will be a special year for the relationship between Sound Division and the school as the MD’s daughter will be part of the Year 6 show finale, before moving on to secondary school. However, David says that he hopes to ensure that the relationship continues, and the company will look to continue to support the school with their services for many years to come.
